About the Centre

Centre for Bioinformatics of Pondicherry University is a national facility funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Department of Information Technology (DIT), and University Grant Commission. The Centre offers M.Sc Bioinformatics (UGC Innovative Program), M.Tech Computational Biology (supported by DBT) courses and Ph.D in Bioinformatics. The Centre has been conducting research activities in the areas of genome analysis, modelling, structural biology, etc and several papers have been published in peer reviewed National and International Journals.

About Seminar - workshop

The National Seminar - workshop on "Next Genomic Era – NGS: A Clinical Approach" hopes to bring an intensive idea and practice of NGS to the student community. This seminar - workshop is blended with eminent speakers and organizations of India focusing on the importance of NGS and its relevance to Bioinformatics. Growing interest on NGS in clinical research is the recent trend to address various diseases, preventive oncology, origin of human genome, transcriptome, exome and microbial study. Research in Gene therapy is the long awaited. A dream to treat the disease precisely, is brought close by NGS. Experimental and analytical part of NGS is related with Bioinformatics in one way or another. This seminar - workshop will introduce various tools and software in relation with NGS to researchers, faculty and students from various universities and different colleges, leading to ultimate benefit for the researchers from Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology fields.

Level of Participants

The seminar - workshop is intended to teachers, faculty and research scholars working/analyzing the inherited message of genome, however, it is open to all those working in relevant areas of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.

Number of Participants : 100 (on first-come, first-served basis)  20 seats are reserved for participants from outside of the Pondicherry University
